Happy Birthday to me! And you know what that means? I am going to spend the day in my quilt studio, not cleaning it, though it needs it badly, not dreaming over quilts that want to be, for I have made a pact with myself to finish some already in the works before the year is out, but working on a favorite quilt that has been sitting for too long waiting for me to make some time for it. Yes, it is one of my UFO's and it is ccalling for me to finish it. So my birthday present to myself is to spend time with my fabric and some new music. My thoughtful guys added some wonderful new albums to my classical music collection-hours of Beethoven and Rachmaninoff filling my ears as I delight in creating wildflower blocks. Pictures to come.... In the meantime I hope you enjoy these freebie finds. As always let me know if the links do not work.
But winter is coming, and if I want to decorate with new quilts this year I have got to get over summer. I love pretty much everything Kim Deihl does, and if you have not found her Facebook page you are missing out on her wonderful adventures in quilting laced with roll on the floor humor as she shares her days with us. I am planning a little UFO contest-still dreaming up the details in my head, but stay tuned. Taking life a stitch at a time, Debra I have had wonderful travels over the summer. We stopped in at some quilt shops around the country and bought lots and lots of fabric. Now I just need to get into my studio and do a little housekeeping. I am making a pact with myself though-no new quilt until I finish up some UFO's. Anybody in for a little UFO busting with me this fall? How many do you have lurking in your space? I will be doing a big reveal next week and deciding where to start in my next post. If you are a blogger and want to join me share your blog with me in the comments. I would love to see what you are doing. In the meantime I hope you enjoy these free patterns I came across this week. ![]() Table Topper Tutorial-I just discovered Connie's wonderful blog Freemotion by the River. She has a lot of tutorials to explore, patterns for sale, and... well, you just need to hop over and visit her there.
I have been putting the finishing touches on a quilt this week. It is the antique quilt I posted about earlier. I enjoyed learning of its history this week as well as I requested information for the label. Being a history buff and a quilter I love it when there is information available for a quilt. I label everything with the name of the quilt, the quilter, date, location. To me it is an important part of the process. I have to say I like what the brown binding did for this quilt-it really was the finishing touch. ![]() As a special bonus, when I went on the porch to photograph this quilt I discovered this moth. It is a Polyphemus moth, part of the giant silkworm family. The wing-span on this moth was a tad over 6 inches! Polyphemus was the mythological one-eyed cyclops, mentioned in The Odyssey of Homer.
