![]() I love quilts, all quilts, old and new. I have been hand quilting this spider web quilt for several months now. It belongs to a friend of mine: an unfinished top passed down through the generations. It was pieced by hand and is in pretty delicate shape in places. It has been a much slower process than I had hoped, but today I made the turn that showed the end is near-the final row and half! It was time to give my fingers a little break so I thought I would also share some old friends that reside in my studio now. ![]() I have three quilts in my collection from family members. This is a crazy quilt that my paternal grandmother made. There were two of these and they spent a lot of time on my brothers' beds. ![]() My grandmother also made this Dresden Plate quilt, which is very worn from being my cover of choice throughout my childhood. Once upon a time I learned how to repair old quilts, I need to spend some time and bring this old favorite back to life. (Which means I need to start keeping an eye out at antique shops and the like for suitable fabric.) ![]() This Sunbonnet Sue was from my husband's family. I do not know it's history or maker, but somewhere in that family was a talented appliquer. Back to quilting!
Deb ![]() I wish I knew that name of the quilter how made this lovely Lone Star quilt. The article can be accessed at Quilter's Newsletter. All I can tell you is it is a quilt by Lori Baker's mom and was shown in Wyoming last year. Ever since I discoverd quilting I have wanted to tackle this pattern. I have played with it on a smaller scale, making a little pillow for a gift one year...Someday I hope to make one worthy of someone's bed. Since stars are on my mind, here are a couple of freebies for you this week. As always let me know if the links do not work for you. ![]() Lone Star Wall Quilt-Adapted from a Quilt Designed by LISSA ALEXANDER Made and Machine Quilted by KATHRYN PATTERSON ![]() Mango Salsa Stars by Konda Luckau for Timeless Treasures Taking life a stitch at a time,
Deb It has been a busy week in my little part of the world. Baby showers, quilt guild meeting, a luncheon to help with, and of course my work schedule...so Thursday Freebie is coming to you on Friday this week. Spring made a bit of an appearance this past weekend. Our pear tree blossomed in the 80 degree weather only to be covered with ice the next day. Soon, the flowers will be making their appearance in our yards so it seemed fitting to share a couple of free BOM's with you that showcase these gems in our world. ![]() Dream Garden offered by Sentimental Stitches. New blocks are posted on the 15th of the month. ![]() Forever Blooming by P3 Designs. You have to set up an account, which is free, to have access to the free BOM patterns. When the block for a new month is added the previous month is only available for purchase after that. Taking it a stitch at a time,
